Sikkens Prize 2024 awarded to Pipilotti Rist

On Monday 7 October, the Sikkens Prize 2024 was awarded to leading Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist. The board of the Sikkens Foundation praised Pipilotti Rist, ‘the mother of video art’, for the phenomenal way she uses colour in her work and, as a pioneer in video art, paved the way for younger generations.

The award ceremony took place at a festive gathering at the Depot of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and Kunsthal Rotterdam. The programme included a film with Rist on colour, the Mondrian Lecture by Dr Alexandra Loske on pioneering women in the history of colour, and a dance performance by the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam with a choreography created especially for the Sikkens Prize 2024 ceremony by Nanine Linning. After the laudatio – spoken by Sjarel Ex – Rist received the Sikkens Prize prism from the hands of board members Maarten de Vries and Karin Amatmoekrim.

After the official part of the presentation, the company visited Rist’s installation Wasting life on you at the Boijmans van Beuningen Depot. The award ceremony ended festively with an after-party at the depot.
